What is the BYC?

The Brighton Youth Commission is a great way for youth and adults to get involved with the municipal government of Brighton. This organization can help youth to develop leadership skills, and also allows individuals to make a difference in their community. Twenty-two youth are given a voice in local government, allowing them to create projects and work on ideas affecting teens.

Adults are also encouraged to participate in The Brighton Youth Commission. Six adult members, including 4 at large community members, one Brighton City Council representative and one School District 27J representative work alongside youth in order to make positive change in our community.  Youth-adult partnerships play a large role in the success of the commission.

The Brighton Youth Commission is always accepting donations to help support our projects and help us continue to build leadership skills and create a larger impact on the community.

Youth ages 13-18 can become a part of the Brighton Youth Commission through an application and interview proccess that takes place in May each year. Youth ages 10 and up can also become a part of the Brighton Youth Corps at any time of the year as long as they submit an application and commit to four hours of community service per month.

The Brighton Youth Commisson is commited to advocating for youth by providing them the opportunity to learn, lead, and serve through community outreach, service projects, and establishing youth adult partnerships.

Powerful new voices on a journey for change...
